Difference between change and transformation
Today Digital transformation is part of most corporate strategies, but only 25% have tangible results. Too many are under the illusion of transformation while they are only doing siloed digital projects and change initiatives that are not strategically transformational.
What is the fundamental difference between change and transformation?
Change is doing things differently, it fixes and improves the past and implies a shift in behaviors. Transformation is a new way of being, it creates a new future without the constraints of the past and implies a shift in values.
Organizations often focus on improving operations (operational excellence, do more of the same, but better, faster and cheaper), workforce (improving communication and collaboration, using the cloud), and/or marketing (omni-channels strategy, new products). All this is necessary and important but must be part of an overall transformative vision that also questions business-models. Indeed, all industries are being reshaped by new business models that have never existed before and that can disrupt rapidly any sector.
Like a caterpillar that transforms into a butterfly, it’s time to take full advantage of digital transformation!
